Start each day with a grateful heart.
I'm generally not a fan of cliche holiday posts, but I am making an exception this year because Kumquat and I have so much to be grateful for. It's a feeling that is easily lost in the minutiae of day to day life, so I think it's important for everyone to take a step back once a year to really understand and appreciate the best parts of our lives, no matter how small or inconsequential they may seem.
This year, Kumquat and I are grateful for:
- Our family
- Our home (particularly the view off of our deck)
- Our job (I say 'our' because she is there almost as much as I am)
- Our boss and co-workers
- Our friends
- The awesome peeps at Kids Cabin (grown ups and munchkins alike)
- This shop, and the opportunities and adventures we have because of it
Above all else, I am grateful for us - for being a single mommy / daughter duo. Single parenting is tough - in fact, it can be downright awful at times - but it has also been the singular most amazing, wonderful experience of my life. Kumquat has taught me so much about who I am and who I am not; I still have a ways to go, but I couldn't ask for a better companion than her. Even if she does think 4am is play time.
